Summer Course 2009 | APPLY HERE >> (On-Line Application, deadline: 15 April) >>

Course Materials / 15 - 29 August, 2009: The Open Society -
The Way it Works in Sweden on Local, National and International Level

Literature, computers etc.
For you to be able to prepare your studies, you will find a literature list below. We will also continuously publish electronic literature materials on this page. However, some material will be given as paper copies when you are in Haparanda. For you to be able to get the most out of the course, it is necessary that you study those materials before you arrive to Haparanda since the course is short and intensive. You will have to bring your own materials if you want to write things down during the course. Computers with Internet connection at the computer labs are available during day time between 8 and 17 at Svefi. 6-7 computers will be available 24 hours a day. Wireless or wired Internet connection is available at the student dormitory in most of the rooms. If you have a laptop then you are welcome to take it with you and use a wireless or wired connection at the dormitory for preparing for the classes or cultural evenings.

Methodology
Since we are a liberal adult education centre, not a university, we will sometimes use our own pedagogical methods when teaching which might differ from regular university studies. We will have lectures and seminars with group tasks and so called workshops when students get a certain task from their lecturer and then present a summary of the discussion in the group to the rest of the students. The term Summer Course  itself might be misleading for some of you as it is arranged for the university students. You should not expect from this course to have lectures from 8 to 16 when university professors deliver speeches, telling you what is right and what is wrong. The whole course is more of an interaction among the students and lectures in different studying environments where your personal experience and your input are very important and everybody’s opinion counts.
